My family and I painted my son's room midnight blue to which my artsy daughter added streaks of lighter bluish colors so it looked appropriately like the background it was intended to be. Then I painstakingly added stars, carefully plotting the location of each one until I had a planetarium. My son loves it and the constellations are all recognizable!

That's why I love this new "blackboard paint" that you can get for your walls (or furniture even!) at home. It comes in all different colors. My son has a sky blue *flat* wall in his room and another that is grass green painted right on the "acoustic" textured drywall. He calls it his "outside" wall because it looks like grass and feels like a sidewalk.

Anyway he can draw on it all he likes and there's no problem with clean up when *he* decides he doesn't want it anymore.

And you can transfer the image to paper easily just by patting it on the wall!

Heyyyyy... maybe I could use that to make a new map...

Hey! Welcome to my world. Maps are everywhere! (And faces, animals, monsters, and other things, too, sometimes.)

I got in trouble once when I was little because I penciled in map symbols for towns in between the bumps on the sculpted dry wall in my room. Then I labeled them with names and connected them together with roads, as I carefully weaved through the valleys and around hills, following rivers and climbing up on to high plateaus, and so on... As I remember, I was forced to scrub the walls as punishment. Which totally ruined a really nice map!!

I've personally benefited from your critiques so keep them up. If I am not interested in a price of advice I simply ignore it. Arguments and conversations both take two participants.

    Lmao.

I tend to like things for various reasons... teaches me something, it's funny, it's a good map/picture or an improvement, or someone had a good idea... and usually when I can't add anything to what was said.

maybe I do overdo it a little...

    MLP avatar... change it to...

... a thumbs up. Because you seem to like everyone's posts, in fact when you don't like my posts, it leaves me rather upset

... It's really the only thing that I base my success on: "How many likes from Jalyha do I get?"

I collect stalkers like other people collect stamps ...

They follow me in herds like an entourage of antelope!

And yes, my thoughts are always tripping over something, and yes, maps are the current stone in my path. Not a stumbling block, no... for me it's always something that makes me fall backwards, flipping in circles in the air until I land (somehow!?!?) flat on my face.

But I'm used to it, so I'll keep getting up to trip some more

In other mapping-obsessed news... I almost spent my rent monies on a desk cause it had a map etched in the glass

you know, Jalyha, I am really enjoying reading your thoughts and how they tend to trip over that dastardly mapping hook that just keeps digging deeper. I have laughed and chuckled at your stumbles and can very easily relate to the frustrations. The number of years that I have been hanging around here, and I can still count the number of finished maps on one hand... I am glad to see that you are still sticking with it all, and am enjoying watching your mapping skills grow.

It looks like you just might have picked up another stalker.

Well stated. Writing is one of my better qualities as well. I love to write. More importantly, I love to read. After reading a few sentences of something I write, I often feel the urge to write more and wind up becoming more and more hooked within the story until "WHAM!" something profound is written. Maybe not in some other's minds, but in my own, something exciting and adventurous has emerged. After reading your post, I couldn't help reading it over again a few more times due to the creativity and effectiveness of your writing. Again, well done.

I wind up creating using tools & tropes I already know. There's this varying period beforehand that consists of learning those tools, but once I go to map, I'd better not even read the forum. Even that tempting reply to something I posted last month.... NO. Close browser. Draw.

So that varying period could be termed rehearsal using mere *practice* maps... don't expect much from them, 'cept maybe getting better at some method as I go. Not a *real* map that I care overmuch about. I've learnt that lesson, I have. Helped a friend work out the kinks in a new cooperative geofiction world he was spinning up, with three throwaway example nations. Before I knew what'd happened I was attached to all three, hence had to continue to run them for the next several years, had to develop them, characterize them, map them, roleplay them. HAD to.

I wonder if you might be able to learn and improve without overmuchSQUIRREL!!!!!!! if you first stuck with tutorials that obviously bore little relation to your mind-child worlds. THen later might you be able to work on and mentally leave as throwaway, an explicitly practice map? Say, by intentionally building huge flaws into it that kept it from becoming part of one of your already-envisioned worlds? Unless of course you're the kind of person who would rescue a disabled puppy and cherish it more for its flaws....

    Oh hiiii.

You're welcome. I enjoy forcing my views on other people friendly conversation!

I honestly believe that you can make anything your own... even my paint-by-number pictures as a child looked different from my sister's

.... on another note, I don't know whether I'm pleased or terrified to know that people will read my random spoutings. (A little of both I think).

To lessen the impact of my first posting, I shall now be forced to make another (anything to avoid working!)

Hopefully it will lure more people into idle-ness and I shall no longer be alone in my shame

    Kidding of course!

    Thanks for the visit!!
