Welcome!
The Cartographers’ Guild is a forum created by and for map makers and aficionados, a place where every aspect of cartography can be admired, examined, learned, and discussed. Our membership consists of professional designers and artists, hobbyists, and amateurs—all are welcome to join and participate in the quest for cartographic skill and knowledge.
Although we specialize in maps of fictional realms, as commonly used in both novels and games (both tabletop and role-playing), many Guild members are also proficient in historical and contemporary maps. Likewise, we specialize in computer-assisted cartography (such as with GIMP, Adobe apps, Campaign Cartographer, Dundjinni, etc.), although many members here also have interest in maps drafted by hand.
If this is your first visit, be sure to check out the FAQ. You will have to register before you can post or view full size images in the forums.

I haven't done any mapping in a while, but I'm still the occasional artist for work, though that's been scarce as well since I'm mostly coding. As for the guild, I've been working on beefing up the front page, the public relations, the advertising, ...
My third map: Made in PS, with Antique Style Maps In PhotoShop tutorial. I got the compass rose in Wikipedia.

How interesting, I found a plugin for Gimp that allows you to use layer styles as Potoshop, Layer Effects. The Python version (layerfx.py) allows preview.
My second map: No countries, no rivers. I make it with Photoshop using Ascension's Atlas Tutorial. In Creating the Continental Shelf, Select > Color range = black with a fuzziness of 150, I use 50 instead.
My first map: I make it using Ascension's Atlas Tutorial in Gimp. Remains to be done: Rivers and Countries. Felimage too; not installed it because I could not. (It is the first time I write in English, please be patient.)
