Welcome!
The Cartographers’ Guild is a forum created by and for map makers and aficionados, a place where every aspect of cartography can be admired, examined, learned, and discussed. Our membership consists of professional designers and artists, hobbyists, and amateurs—all are welcome to join and participate in the quest for cartographic skill and knowledge.
Although we specialize in maps of fictional realms, as commonly used in both novels and games (both tabletop and role-playing), many Guild members are also proficient in historical and contemporary maps. Likewise, we specialize in computer-assisted cartography (such as with GIMP, Adobe apps, Campaign Cartographer, Dundjinni, etc.), although many members here also have interest in maps drafted by hand.
If this is your first visit, be sure to check out the FAQ. You will have to register before you can post or view full size images in the forums.
Here is part three of the text-only version of The Adventures of Calan Stonebridge. Calan Stonebridge could not remember a time when he had been more sore. He had spent the last few hours huddled under a foul smelling tarp in the back of a stolen grave diggers wagon. The rough planks of the floor of the wagon had dug into his flesh and the hard ride had given him bruises he was sure would never heal. The roads outside of Riverhewn had been hard packed due to a lack of rain and he ...

Here is part two of the text-only version of The Adventures of Calan Stonebridge Calan Stonebridge ran up the stairs and out of the horrifying basement as fast as his legs would carry him. "What do you mean you didn't leave the bolt off?!" Calan heard the rough male voice ask someone. "I mean I didn't leave ...

Here is part one of the text-only version of The Adventures of Calan Stonebridge as written to this point. Enjoy Calan Stonebridge was very aware of the type of tavern the "Stabbed Soldier" was. Although he was only 13 years old, he had lived in Riverhewn long enough to know that the tavern was the meeting place for many of the cities seedier citizens. He hated living in the city. Especially in the area known as the "Common Ward" it was the poorest area of the ...
Sometimes this place can be a bit... intimidating. There are so many talented people making so many nice maps that sometimes it can be a bit frighting. I'm fairly secure in my belief in my own talent when it comes to encounter map making and story telling and in a less secure way my large scale map making skills. One area that I had NO confidence in was my ability to create objects. You know, the little details that make an encounter map. Barrels and crates and horses and things like that. There ...

Rog Nenshen sat at the end of the bar at the Grinning Goblin Tavern holding a tall mug of dark Riverhewn Ale. This was his customary position on most nights as it allowed him to tell and hear stories to and from the adventurers that frequented his tavern. Tonight was no exception. There was a small crowd in front of Rog now all eagerly listening to the taverner's story." Now believe me or don't that's ye's choice but I can tell ye I was there and saw with my own eyes the horror of it all." ...
