Welcome!
The Cartographers’ Guild is a forum created by and for map makers and aficionados, a place where every aspect of cartography can be admired, examined, learned, and discussed. Our membership consists of professional designers and artists, hobbyists, and amateurs—all are welcome to join and participate in the quest for cartographic skill and knowledge.
Although we specialize in maps of fictional realms, as commonly used in both novels and games (both tabletop and role-playing), many Guild members are also proficient in historical and contemporary maps. Likewise, we specialize in computer-assisted cartography (such as with GIMP, Adobe apps, Campaign Cartographer, Dundjinni, etc.), although many members here also have interest in maps drafted by hand.

Preliminary Note: The city itself is only 7 inches long and completely hand drawn The idea is simple: a sacred water source with generative powers (various entities emerge from the water and must be protect in the sites around the central spring's lake) is the nexus of a city. Not only is the surrounding landscape desert and the water is important to survive, but the generative powers cannot be allowed to enter the hands of others.... This blog post contains some of my thoughts as ...
Another hand-drawn map in my 5'' by 8.25'' Moleskin.... I am exploring the idea of a city as a generative locus -- particular locations in a world that generate various properties -- hence the protective walls around the creek headwaters that flow through the city. Enjoy! Note: I'd love to hear comments, suggestions, tips, etc. I've only recently restarted creating hand-drawn maps.
