The Realm of Hades by GLS
October/November 2016 Lite Challenge Results
For October/November's Lite Challenge, our theme was 'Underworld'. Bogie wrote...
Traditionally in RPGs and movies, Underworld refers to realms that lie beneath ours. But that leaves a lot of room for creative interpretation. For this challenge make a map of the Underworld, what ever that means to you... so you could do a cave system, or a whole underground city, or a hollow earth type setting, or the sewer system under a city and what lives down there, or what ever your creative minds come up with.
This month's challenge was extra special, as we had a prize on offer! We'd like to extend a huge thank you to Jesper Schmidt for graciously donating a copy of his book 'Fantasy Map Making' to the winner. You can check out his book here, as well as his Twitter and YouTube channels.
But onto our entries...!
We had several interpretations of 'Underworld'. ReverendRover created "The Lands Beneath The World", commenting that " as a classic fantasy fan, the idea of realms existing beneath the earth always float my boat." Poison created "Daineth Crystal Caves" which sadly wasn't quite finished due to a medical issue. (Hope you're feeling better now!) Imants went for a D & D inspired map titled "The underworlds of Agarta".
Voting was very close at the top with only one (last minute) vote separating our top two entries. Our runner-up was Wired with "Hel and the Halls of the Dead", an interpretation of the old Norse realm of the dead.
Our winner this month, for second consecutive month, is GLS with his classical styled map "The Realm of Hades". Congrats, GLS, on your second silver compass, and we hope you enjoy your prize! Check out the WIP thread here.
Thanks to all who entered!
November/December 2016 Lite Challenge : Map a Flying Island
The new Lite Challenge is well underway, but there's still plenty of time to enter. Bogie says...
Last month we went underground and mapped the Underworld, this month we are going to look at the skies and map a Floating Island.
Map it any way you want to, top down perspective, side view and show the thickness of the island, Heck , you could even map what the island looks like from underneath, as if it were flying over you.. Whichever you prefer.
