Evil Lair is Evil by Poison

Dec 2016 / Jan 2017 Lite Challenge Results

Our latest Lite Challenge was 'Map a Dangerous Place'. Bogie explained...

This is as wide open as it gets, Map someplace Dangerous. Now, you can take the straightforward approach and map a Swamp, a volcano, a Comet, a raging river, a valley full of cannibals, Kong Island, etc. Or, you can get creative and map a haunted house, a dark and dangerous alley, Your In-Laws house, a country overrun by the Zombie Apocalypse. So Many Possibilities.
Last month we had a great turnout with a dozen entries. I realize this is a busy time for some of you because of the holidays, but do the best you can.
Map it any way you want to, any style any genre.. Whatever you prefer.

We had a pretty decent turnout, in fact, with ten maps in the poll. Among the entries, we had an infamous pirate cove ('Red Water Retreat' by mixerbach) and an unusual manhunt through South America ('Hunting the most dangerous man in the world' by Tonnichiwa). Wolram mapped the region around a super volcano in 'Trengen Valley', and Tenia made a fantastic one-point perspective map 'It has to be earned' (including the gloriously-named Crabinator, Crabstark, Crabagorn and Crabadriel). Straf wins best pun of the year (so far) with a decidedly fishy entry 'A Dangerous Plaice'.

Our third-placed entry, by Onomanatee, featured the dangerous waters of 'Murmurcreek Marsh'. Second place (and losing by one vote only) went to Corilliant with hand-drawn map 'The Gate of Fangs & Some Other Dangerous Places'.

Our congrats this month go to Poison for the wonderfully-named 'Evil Lair of Evil'. To quote Poison's description...

For this month's challenge I'm recreating the layout plans of a beginning super-villain. He hasn't had a chance to turn bitter from group after group of adventurers destroying his carefully placed traps yet, and he brims over with an infectious enthusiasm for every deadly contraption in the book. Our villain does not believe in "less is more", or in hiring more skilled people to plan or build the traps for him.

Poison's map was hand-drawn and coloured, then the colours were inverted to give it that authentic evil lair vibe. You can see the original (slightly more regular) colouring in the WIP thread here. Poison wins a second Silver Compass, and the congrats of all at the Guild!

Jan / Feb 2017 Lite Challenge

Our new Lite Challenge is well underway. This time, you are tasked with creating a treasure map. Bogie writes...

So the obvious type of Treasure Map would be a pirates map. Or it could be a handout used by the players in a game like D&D. Or a fancy map that is used at a kids adventure park. Lots of movies with inspiration here, Goonies, The Count of Monte Cristo, Indiana Jones, National Treasure. So Many Possibilities. Or make it something unique or personal.

You read more about the challenge here, and check out the current entries here. Good luck to everyone!
