Aug /Sept '17 Lite Challenge : Map a Village
Our Lite Challenge for August/September was 'Map a Village'. As Bogie wrote, there were many possibilities...
This Challenge is for you to map a village. You can use your imagination and map any type of village you want. Make a small rural community for a modern setting, a medieval village, a western frontier town, a Sherpa village in the Himalayas, a small space outpost, or even a mermaid community, you choose.
So you can make the map in any genre, any style you want.

As usual, Guilders let their creative juices flow, and we had a wide variety of styles among our entries. Bryan G. McWhirter's entry was the rather ominous-sounding 'Kadmos, the village at the edge of hell'. InfiniteBlue88 created 'Bastions Fork' in the style of a map owned by a local hunter. Kier's entry mapped 'Abberdale', a quiet but watchful village with a mysterious Druid resident. Mixerbach's map showed 'The village of Aberyst', a remote fishing village and pilgrimage destination. QED42's entry 'St Endelienta' depicted a riverside abbey and surrounding village. Taldoz mapped 'The Village of Kandor's Crest', a community of eco-friendly families. Finally, Tenia created 'Grhum hum', an orc village complete with fighting arena and blood!
Our runner-up this month was Straf, with entry 'Mossford', a traditional village that grew up around a road/river intersection, complete with a pub or two.
We had a tie at the top, and therefore two Silver Compasses were dispensed! Our congratulations go to Bioluminescence for 'Mackabie-on-the-Sea', a small fishing village whose most notable feature is its monastery devoted to the care of cats. Congrats are also due to Samstego for 'The Fishing Village of Vettalasi', a hand-drawn and digitally coloured map showing Vettalasi and its environs.
It's great to see not one, but two high-quality maps winning the challenge, among a strong field of entries. Thanks to all who took part!
Sept / Oct '17 Lite Challenge : The Caves of Chaos
The new Lite Challenge is up and running... and it's a goodie! Bogie sez...
This Challenge is a bit Different. For many of you who grew up playing Dungeons & Dragons you know the name, Caves of Chaos, it is part of a larger adventure module, Keep on the Borderlands. KotB, was an introduction to D&D. It is a classic. You don't have to be a D&D player to do this, we are just creating a map. But what a map! The Caves of Chaos is massive. Way to big a project to do as a lite challenge in less than a month. So, I want each of you to make a part of it. After the Challenge I will reassemble the entire cave system from your individual parts. Yes, it will be a lot of styles that don't exactly go together, but it is the Caves of CHAOS after all.
We're already doubled up in some areas, so go claim your spot now! More info and discussion on the challenge in this thread, and check out the current entries here.
