  • Weekly Round-up - 9th July, 2018

  1. Welcome!

The Cartographers’ Guild is a forum created by and for map makers and aficionados, a place where every aspect of cartography can be admired, examined, learned, and discussed. Our membership consists of professional designers and artists, hobbyists, and amateurs—all are welcome to join and participate in the quest for cartographic skill and knowledge.

Although we specialize in maps of fictional realms, as commonly used in both novels and games (both tabletop and role-playing), many Guild members are also proficient in historical and contemporary maps. Likewise, we specialize in computer-assisted cartography (such as with GIMP, Adobe apps, Campaign Cartographer, Dundjinni, etc.), although many members here also have interest in maps drafted by hand.

If this is your first visit, be sure to check out the FAQ. You will have to register before you can post or view full size images in the forums.

July 2018 Challenge: Son of the Fantasy Random Generator

It's July, and you know what that means? Yup, it's time for everyone's favourite random generator challenge once again. Head for Donjon's web site, generate your list of places and pick one, then start mapping. Diamond explains in further detail in the intro thread.

This challenge proved hugely popular in previous years, and we've seen some wonderful maps come from it, so let's see what we can do this year!

We've got a bunch of entries started already. Take a look here.

Thanks, MMM. Agree about the Armenian map.

I forgot to include a note in the post, but I'm taking a break as I'll be on holiday, so no round-ups for a couple of weeks. We'll pick up again towards the end of the month.
