  • Weekly Round-up - 22nd October, 2018

  1. Welcome!

The Cartographers’ Guild is a forum created by and for map makers and aficionados, a place where every aspect of cartography can be admired, examined, learned, and discussed. Our membership consists of professional designers and artists, hobbyists, and amateurs—all are welcome to join and participate in the quest for cartographic skill and knowledge.

Although we specialize in maps of fictional realms, as commonly used in both novels and games (both tabletop and role-playing), many Guild members are also proficient in historical and contemporary maps. Likewise, we specialize in computer-assisted cartography (such as with GIMP, Adobe apps, Campaign Cartographer, Dundjinni, etc.), although many members here also have interest in maps drafted by hand.

If this is your first visit, be sure to check out the FAQ. You will have to register before you can post or view full size images in the forums.

Winner of Sept/Oct 18 Lite Challenge

Welcome to the weekly round-up, a summary of what’s happened at the Guild over the past seven days.

    Challenge News

Sept/October 2018 Lite Challenge : Map a location from a Harry Potter Movie

Congrats to aeshnidae for winning the Lite Challenge with her map Hogwart's Express Patent Papers. Aeshnidae wins a third silver compass, so no more Lite Challenges! Check out the WIP thread here.

Honourable mention to runner-up mirandaleiggi for 'Grounds of Hogwarts'.

Oct / Nov '18 Lite Challenge: Finish Mapping this Island

The Oct/Nov Lite Challenge is up and running, and this month your task is to 'Finish Mapping this Island'. Bogie writes...

This month's Challenge is to create a map based on the shape of this island.
The scale, climate and setting are all up to you. The only restriction is that you should not significantly alter the coastline.
All kinds of ways to do this, can't wait to see what you come up with.

This has been a popular Challenge in the past and I am hoping we will get a good turnout for this.

Win a silver compass, they look great hung over your fireplace!

Head for the intro thread for more details.

    October 2018 challenge : Photography-Cartography

Our regular challenge is based around a series of photographs (see them here). Pick one or more, and create a map inspired by it. Entries are coming in and you can see them in the main folder. The challenge runs till the end of the month, so there's still time to enter.
