Welcome!
The Cartographers’ Guild is a forum created by and for map makers and aficionados, a place where every aspect of cartography can be admired, examined, learned, and discussed. Our membership consists of professional designers and artists, hobbyists, and amateurs—all are welcome to join and participate in the quest for cartographic skill and knowledge.
Although we specialize in maps of fictional realms, as commonly used in both novels and games (both tabletop and role-playing), many Guild members are also proficient in historical and contemporary maps. Likewise, we specialize in computer-assisted cartography (such as with GIMP, Adobe apps, Campaign Cartographer, Dundjinni, etc.), although many members here also have interest in maps drafted by hand.

Yeah, it blurs in the preview window. Oh, now it's working. Maybe GIMP just needed turned off for a while before it would work? I should have just taken out the cartridge and blown in it... Thanks for your help! Finwe56
I guess you can't access PM's yet so I'll respond here. The only thing I can think of is that you might have a selection in place, which would stop the blur from happening. Is there a blur in the preview window? -Rob A>
Hello RobA, While I'm not temporally new to the forum, I did take a sabbatical from trying to make maps after (and partially due to) failing utterly. But, I have renewed my efforts, and am stuck in what is probably the same place I was before, although I don't remember for certain. On your "Using GIMP to Create an Artistic Regional RPG Map" tutorial, post #6, when I copy the Land Mask layer and rename it Sea Shape, the subsequent Gaussian Blur does not appear when I apply it, and I do not understand why. I followed all of the previous instructions exactly, and my settings all appear to be the same as those on your screenshot. Any advice on how to fix this would be most appreciated! Thank you very much! Finwe56
