Welcome!
The Cartographers’ Guild is a forum created by and for map makers and aficionados, a place where every aspect of cartography can be admired, examined, learned, and discussed. Our membership consists of professional designers and artists, hobbyists, and amateurs—all are welcome to join and participate in the quest for cartographic skill and knowledge.
Although we specialize in maps of fictional realms, as commonly used in both novels and games (both tabletop and role-playing), many Guild members are also proficient in historical and contemporary maps. Likewise, we specialize in computer-assisted cartography (such as with GIMP, Adobe apps, Campaign Cartographer, Dundjinni, etc.), although many members here also have interest in maps drafted by hand.
If this is your first visit, be sure to check out the FAQ. You will have to register before you can post or view full size images in the forums.
Happy Birthday Torstan!
Happy Birthday Torstan! Cheers, -Arsheesh
Thanks The anonymity of forums is a great leveller for age. I *really* like that about the Guild - I know we have people of all ages on here.
Happy Birthday Torstan! Funny, I always thought you were older than me for some reason. Cheers, -Arsheesh
Hi Torstan, just noticed that you had repped my Eriond map a while back, and wanted to say thanks! Cheers, -Arsheesh
Well if you do decide to write this tutorial, I'll be one of the first to read it (and likely rate it).
You're welcome - and you're right. I keep saying that I must put up a tute on those mountains but haven't had the time. I'll get onto that.
Thank you for the kind words, and for the rep. The funny thing about those mountains, I had originally attempted to hand draw mountains similar to those that I had seen in a few of your maps (e.g. the Ironcrag Cantons). After meeting with failure after failure, I finally gave up and tried something entirely different. I'm still really curious how you manage to make such beautiful mountains ranges though. Cheers, -Arsheesh
