Welcome!
The Cartographers’ Guild is a forum created by and for map makers and aficionados, a place where every aspect of cartography can be admired, examined, learned, and discussed. Our membership consists of professional designers and artists, hobbyists, and amateurs—all are welcome to join and participate in the quest for cartographic skill and knowledge.
Although we specialize in maps of fictional realms, as commonly used in both novels and games (both tabletop and role-playing), many Guild members are also proficient in historical and contemporary maps. Likewise, we specialize in computer-assisted cartography (such as with GIMP, Adobe apps, Campaign Cartographer, Dundjinni, etc.), although many members here also have interest in maps drafted by hand.
If this is your first visit, be sure to check out the FAQ. You will have to register before you can post or view full size images in the forums.
Thank you for the rep on Ivorell!
Thanks for the rep Martin. Glad you liked the map. Re the graph paper, it doesn't really matter what colour your graph paper is, so long as there is a notable difference between your line work and the grid so the selection tools can do their job and select one or the other, however you prefer to work.
Thank you for the rep and the nice comments! Always appreciated
Thank you Martin ! Do not worry about the vote, trying my hand at a map like this was rewarding enough, the silver compass is just the cherry on top
Hey Martin, my treasure map was drawn on graph paper with a blue grid. Once I inked and scanned it I selected just the ink work with the magic wand/fuzzy select tool and copied it to a new layer. Viola, no grid lines and decent line work. Try it when you get the chance...
Thanks for the rep and the help
Thanks for the rep Abu Lafia, and for the motivation to keep going, I appreciate it.
Thank you for the birthday wishes, Abu! I really wasn't expecting any from the Guild forums, what a nice surprise! Really made my day <3
Thank you for the rep and comment Abu!
Haha, nice one. Subtle but certainly an interesting way to vent out all of the rubbish that life can throw at us. Yeah, and maps have certainly been a welcome distraction to help me get through too. Though sometimes they're just a right pain when they're not going right, then it's back to real life to escape from them!
