Question Opinions/thoughts on commenting to older threads

I was browsing through threads that were posted before I became active on here and wondered whether people respond to old threads or not.
There are many of interest but some are old enough that I'm not sure if commenting at this point is desired. [some are closed so that's obvious there]
    Any opinions on this?

Most threads here are NOT of a timely nature, so I'd think necro'ing old threads should not be a problem, likely a welcome to those who've never seen the thread before.

I think that if you found an old thread that was a great map or a interesting or useful topic then, as GP said, bring it out of the dark could be a good thing, especially for those who haven't seen it before.

The problem comes when someone (usually a newbie) starts commenting on every old thread they find and then bogs down the system with old stuff.

There are many folks who are no longer active, so you may be unlikely to receive an answer to any question or comment on a thread. Other than that, I don't think anyone minds a trip down memory lane too much (or seeing new things for the newer members).

Thanks guys. I guess that answers it. Waldronate, I'll have to keep that in mind.
