Default May 2019 Challenge: Eastern Sadona

OK I'll get the ball rolling this time. The eastern part of the continent of Sadona. I actually started this on Monday and have spent some time trying to get to something I could probably work with. I have no lore or whatnot for this just yet - it's just the beginnings of a map. I'll see where it leads. Hopefully I'll be able to make time to keep at it. It's been far too long.

I don't like it. I'll see what I can do with it but I'm probably going to start again.

    Hey, Straf

You'll get into the stride of it once you sort out the base map. I often close my eyes and dream up the story - so I can see the views and the layout of the land and know what to draw. Maybe that would help?

Ooh, good to see that these maps can be of a larger area. I'm excited to see this develop (or start anew!).

I completely misunderstood the brief. So I'll be starting again, although I quite like the base colours on this. Are battle maps typically used for a PC group versus some 'orribles that the DM dreams up, or is it two teams of player characters, like a capture the flag scenario or tug-of-war or something?

The former. Either PC or print out version. The idea is that you have very small area depicted as a top view map where some encounter takes place. The plyers put their figurines along with GM enemies on the map and you use the grid to move around and fight. The area of fight is usually small, like 30 meters square or so, but there are exceptions. You can browse google images for battlemaps to have the better idea.

I'm not going to make the cut here at all so I'm hereby withdrawing.

I really need to somehow get back to this hobby.

    I hope you do, Straf.

Hobbies are more important than ever after retirement, so it pays to keep them going all the way through those working years.

    Besides - I miss you

Being someone who is striving to make efforts to make a dent in the craft of cartography, I understand not always being able to make the right approach.

Keep at it, inspiration can strike at any time!

    Cheers!
