February 2015 Challenge: The War for Australia

The subject of this month’s main challenge is too tempting for me, as for some time I had in mind mapping something showing a before/after situation with an evolving map in the middle. Perfect for this month’s theme if only there’s one problem: what I had in mind is an alternate history map and so now I have to play completely out of my comfort zone in the main challenge, with only half of the time left: a poor, really poor showing is coming, but you will forgive me, I hope.

Also you fellow australian members here, have to forgive the most implausible partition and subdivision of your country, as I’m going to show the bloody war between the Workers’ Republics of Australia and the Royal Dominion of Australia sometime after the 1950s.
A more detailed backstory will (..mmm.. might) come; for now my first wip map:

Anyway, my alternate Australia is slowly taking shape; next to come, more details and the other maps, with the evolving and changing situations.

Oh, I do not envy the militias fighting on that border. One of the reasons there's never been a civil conflict in Australia is probably because no-one can be bothered leaving the beach and the nice cool sea.

A fourth and maybe final iteration of my map.
