Wip June-Aug '21 Lite Challenge: Barlow County (in the Kimichika Territory)

Given my current track record of not being able to complete these challenge maps, I am probably going to regret this, but I just couldn't resist. Will have some better details regarding the back story for this, but until then, think the Witched meets Jonah Hex.

Going to work this through terragen, and still have some major color/texture work to do, but have the plateaus laid out pretty much where I want them, and started working out some creek locations, though not sure if I am entirely happy with them yet. Minimal erosion work will be required at some point to bring things together completely, but that shouldn't take too long, hopefully.

Rough 2/3rds scale render of what I've managed so far.

Thanks Mr. B. As I said, got a little coloring/texture work to do. Just wanna make things pop a bit better than they currently do, particularly the plateaus. Yesterday was far too hot here in the Portland area to do any work on this, though. Supposed to be 10 to 15 degrees cooler today, so maybe some work this evening. Fingers crossed.

I'm about 40 miles from the other Portland (Maine), we just started our heat wave Monday, it has been about 94 degrees here which is hot but not terrible.

Hah! If you would like, the next time we get a 116 degree day, I can try to send it your way.

At first I thought it was just a photo texture, but up close it looks very cool! I've tried using 3D software like this before, but I've had difficulty wrapping my head around it.
I'll be looking forward to seeing where this goes, if you manage to finish it that is.

Spent a bit of time trying to tweak things just a tiny bit in an effort to get the plateaus to stand out just enough that the edges could be seen, but not so much that they started to dominate things. Feel like I am close, but the ones near the top of the map came out a little too dark, I think.

Also out of my realm of understanding, but the overall texture is solid.
