    Map Join The Mobile Infantry

    Hello all

When this months (March 2021) challenge came up I was itching to create something. The theme was space invaders, this made me hark back to my teenage self doodling sketches of Starship Troopers and their stickmen battles with the bugs. I connected this to my childhood Where's Wally books and thought it would be funny to mash the two ideas together.

I started with the border, and detailed in the four types of bugs as I had no idea what composition would work within. After trying many isometric base drawings with very small people, nothing was working. So I zoomed in for a closer scale and threw out the troopers base, setting the battle in a valley instead. Enough said, I am really pleased with how this turned out, as much of the time, I feel like my colouring of a piece lets it down. This time, however, the colouring really worked. My understanding of colour theory is getting better. I half wish I could have spent longer on each soldier, but the deadline for the competition was pretty tight. Plus, Wheres Wally books use very loose drawings so it fits the theme.

There are three things to find in this, the Brain Bug, and a guest appearance by Wally and his dog. Plus a few references to other IP's.

Not certain what a brain bug looks like but I did manage to find Wally. Very neat concept here and well rendered. I would definitely be making sand castles in a similar situation!

Thank you Arimel. That's good feedback. I did have the bugs on the frame labelled, seems I need to keep the brain bug label at the very least. I thought the height indicator would be enough as it is next to the intro text.

LOL - is that Master-At-Arms from He-Man punching that bug?

This is a very cool piece of art - I dig it.

Thank you, really enjoyed drawing objects and characters in this isometric perspective. I was aiming to capture the charm of Wheres Wally and the tounge and cheek of Starship Troopers.
