    Map Tualth Baerged

I did this little piece as a sketch of some sort of artifact while I was watching tv.
Might have been Doctor Who or Ancient Aliens, I can't remember.
That got me thinking about doing an image like an archaeological infographic.
It progressed from there. All the line work was done in pencil and then pulled into PS.
As I was doing a sort of aged older look to it I got the idea to do a sort of hand-tinted look to parts of it like some old rendering.
Thus, the color to the fragment and the water in the inset map.

I am sure I will do some more images like this as it was a lot of fun to work on.
I'll post the black and white and then the full version of it.

This is quite beautiful. I love the idea of incorporating large close-ups of key storytelling items on the map.

    Great work!

Add me to that lot too!

Really beautiful illustration as always John. Love the more sci-fi themes you've captured in this too.

The layout is very clever! A lot of informations echoing each other with ease. And the quality of the elements is... well, very high, as usual.
I don't know how you're doing this kind of thing while watching tv. If I try to do the same, I'll get a 4 years-old drawing (and I'm not fair with the kids, here).

As always, I'm dazzled by your art ! As I said on DA, the multi map is a blast and the artifact itself is a perfect labyrinth that seems to hold an antique secret, maybe a path to some treasure

    And ...

Beautiful doodling - not that I'm surprised with the maps you usually make. Personally I'm like Ilanthar there - if there is something on the tv and I start doodling, I have to rewind constantly
