Hello does anyone knows where I can download real world heightmap data? Both of moon , mars, earth and whatever else there is available inthe starsystem as heightmaps in grayscale?
what do you need ?
there are many sources for the earth - it depends on the resilution you need
for the moon the current is the LROC-NAC stereo gridded data
for mars the old MOLA data for the full planet
or
the stereo HIRIS and CTX data ( only a few places )
for other things like mars's two moons there are 3d meshes , even some of saterns moons have meshes
For Jupiter's moons there are a few that have some height data

Just heightmap to photoshop hack , resolution , the larger the better.
long list
i have most of it but here are the links to the original data
earth
https://topotools.cr.usgs.gov/gmted_...obal_grids.php
https://dds.cr.usgs.gov/srtm/version2_1/
Mercury
the pds global heightmap ( in pds "img" format)
https://pdsimage2.wr.usgs.gov/archiv...EM/GLOBAL/IMG/
jpg2000 version
https://pdsimage2.wr.usgs.gov/archiv...OBAL/JPEG2000/
Venus
http://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/mis...gxdr/index.htm
the height data
http://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/mgn.../mg_3002/gtdr/
-- Now i have a repaired and cleaned up version of the venus data
-- rework of the original data , and by chance i just the other day posted a lores 16384x8192 copy of it
-- 16 bit unsigned with each value set to 0.5 meters in height
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6Z...ew?usp=sharing
Mars
the mola data
http://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/mis...mgs/megdr.html
-- by chance i just the other day posted a lores 16384x8192 copy of it
-- 16 bit unsigned with each value set to 0.5 meters in height

jupiter and the rest are scattered on various sites
if you are using MS windows " Bjorn Jonsson " has a comandline tool for pds
"img2png"
http://www.unmannedspaceflight.com/i...showtopic=4979
gdal opens img files and converts them to geo-tiff's
you need both the img and lbl files
img == image
lbl == lable
example for mercury
now this WILL!!! be 16 bit SIGNED INTEGER formatCode:gdal_translate MSGR_DEM_USG_SC_I_V01.LBL MercuryDEM.tiff
-32767 to + 32768

Useful post, thanks John. I used to have a list but my links are probably out of date now. You seem to have high res versions of all the non gas giants.
Mmm the earth ones I can't understand hgt etc , isn't there simply grayscale?
there is the old BlueMarble2 data it is 16 bit signed RAW " srtm_ramp2.world.86400x43200.bin.gz"
http://mirrors.arsc.edu/nasa/topography/
and some 8 bit jpg's
the "
GMTED2010 Global Grids is in " ESRI ArcGrid format ".
a standard format for geo data

I have an earth heightmap, it's 16 bit @ 300 ppi and 4 pixels per mile, if you want some of it. I'd love to post the whole psd file but it's 23g and I have no way that I know of to host or transfer that much data. I forget the source of it and the original resolution and all that but later when I can open the file I will post a bit so you can see if it's any good for you.
