I have an interesting map of my own I made and it is supposed to be a Protoss Colony, of sorts, from StarCraft. I don't know how good it is, but it's a start from what I could muster up. What do you guys think?

Yeah, I know this website, it makes great inspirational maps. And for starcraft maps, a little editing of the colors can get you any terrain, good choice !
Same here! Amit Patel's Polygon Map Generation demo is a wonderful resource for generating landmass designs/shapes!
I really like the shape you've generated for this. It'll look great for a sci-fi map! Looking forward to seeing how it develops.

Thank you guys! I am sti--
Wait, how did you know about how I generated the map!?
Because I've used it before...
Here: Alu'kesh Dragonlands
And here: Base Maps (resources)

some of us really do know the default output of most of the generators
-- we use them as a starting point
and a bunch of blog posts last year were about redblob

this persons work is rather good

I also took a look at your Alu'Kesh Dragonlands map and I have to say I was impressed. If you used the polygon map generator for a template and created this, I don't know how you did it, but you're doing better than me, because I don't exactly know where to find tiles for certain map making and I don't know exactly what to find to add on to a map like this, so maybe I need a little help here.
I seriously don't know how to make legends for a map either.
Thanks very much.
For that map, I generated 2 different landmass shapes and used them as a base to build on in PaintShop Pro X7 (image editing software).
If you don't have an image editor like Photoshop, PaintShop Pro, etc., the GIMP is a very popular (and free) alternative. You can download it here: GIMP
Then take a look in the Tutorials/How-To forum, here at the Guild. There are a number of excellent GIMP tutorials in there that should help to get you started.
And what waldronate is referring to is Fractal Terrains. He's the owner/developer of that software. In addition to FT, he also has a free terrain generator: Wilbur

Oh... That explains it. I guess that makes sense I wasn't the only one who does that. Yes, I am using it as a template for a map of a Protoss Colony on a planet, pretty much part of a campaign development.
