There already are a number of programs available that do what inkarnate does, except much more elaborately. I would add that I found that mapmaking tool to be rather unimpressive and primitive when viewed from the Cartographers Guild world, where great maps have been made with programs like Photoshop, The GIMP, Dundjinni, Campaign Cartographer, Fractal Mapper, etc. Inkarnate seems to be able to do little ... maps in the quality of the original CC2 package or FM7. Both were great and exciting in their day, but their day was a long, long time ago.

Yeah, I just followed the link and kept wondering when the magic was going to happen.. if he wants to impress me he needs a LOT more to show off something worth following.

Well... ehm... I'm somehow shocked by the negative feedback Inkarnate is getting here.

Okay, it might be looking primitive from a professional perspective, but it certainly has got its right to exist. Speaking from my own experience, it's perfect for beginners and people with absolutely zero cartography skills. Such as me.

I've drawn (bad) maps for my Fantasy world "Mythanien" since decades, but there was always a huge gap between my imagination and my sketches. Now, with Inkarnate, I was finally able to create a prototype of a map, a simple, yet pictorial sketch. Without Inkarnate, Mythanien would still be a world without a map. Without Inkarnate, I wouldn't have shared this prototype with the public. Without Inkarnate, I wouldn't have been inspired to improve my map making skills (or gain some in the first place ^^). I wouldn't have been here, in the Cartographers Guild.

So, as you can see, Inkarnate is a well-done and motivating tool for beginners!
