Wip January 2018 Challenge: The Southern Lands of Thalak-Mul

I finished up another piece I was working on so I can join in here finally.
I love the idea Chashio had for this challenge.
It's already fun to see all the different versions coming from this.

Hopefully I can add something fun to the mix.
I did a bit of a shift with this and rotated the main map slightly to get a variation on the positioning.
That allowed me to get a better feel for a possible perspective map.
We'll see what time allows. Here's the basic start and then where I am at now...

I'm still working out story and cultural stuff for this one.
I like how it feels so far.

Very nice! Looks a bit like Southern Scotland, with all of the islands off the West coast, and not too many off the East coast

Awesome start, J! Like Ilathar said, it's incredible how with such simple lineart you've already captured such a great perspective!

    Thanks Tonquani
I can see what you mean.
Maybe after this challenge is done I'll explore more of the region and see what it looks like beyond the edges of this map.

Trust me, it only came to me with a lot of practice, very specific practice.

    Thanks Greg
Hopefully it will continue to look good throughout, and not just at the beginning. [i kid, i kid]

Okay, another ever so slight update.
Just messing with laying in some more detailed coastlines.
This one is gonna be a slow piece i think. Hopefully i gave myself enough time.
I'm really enjoying this challenge and all of the great entries so far. (:
[I'm stealing that backward smile that Dan uses - I keep hitting that 10 emoji limit... frowns, cus can't use anymore emojis]

Looking great already, man! Love that you're expanding the name base significantly.

That is okay to do, yes? I wasn't sure but sort of just jumped into it.

Of course! You have to -at minimum- use the base text, but you can add to that in any way you want.

You're one of those who also have a knack for names... Really love where this is going!
And I suspect I would have to practice a lot to get something half as good about perspective. I really sucks for this kind of things, right now.
