    Wip September 2016 Challenge: Majiao

So I just loved the idea of this challenge so much that I started playing around with a few different ideas, not really intending on entering anything because I don't have much free time to spend on this. I really wanted to challenge myself by limiting myself just to the colors in the palette and not rely on blending to get effects.

Anyway I found an interesting style that got me hooked so I thought I'd put it up and hope that I can continue to find little bits of time to keep working on it.

Currently I'm using the palette "Harefoot", but I'm still not set on this and am hoping to try out different color combinations, time permitting.

Anyway, here is the beginings of Majiao

    Praise Holy Abstraction, Batman!

    Janston here,

I think that this map has a lot of potential. I am really digging the abstract take on the details, and the palette you chose took some courage. With all of those blues, the only things that jumped into my head when considering what I'd do in your position was the TOTALLY SWEET movie "Waterworld" starring Kevin Costner. Hahahaha!

I'll be keeping on eye on this post for updates because I really like where you're headed with this.

    Have a great day!

Now that's really interesting! I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that. I really dig it so far.

Update, with a few details added, trial labels and.... a new color scheme

Would love any feedback (and suggestions for other color schemes to try out)

This is a fantastic abstract style you have here jslaw! I like the new color scheme. Have you used the whole palette yet? If not, where are you planning to add further colors?

Thanks Abu. No I haven't used all the colors yet, and not yet sure where I will use them....

It will depend on if I choose this as my final color scheme or choose a different one in the end.

Another alternative for the colors. Having more of a think about what Abu said I think I don't want too many colors so I picked this one based on there only being the five colors. I also made some of the land features a darker shade to help them stand out.

I like that last color scheme the best by far.

Amazing style jslaw06! Very unique! The last color scheme works best I'd say.

I agree with Abu, the abstract depiction of terrain is a great idea ! Talking about colors, a middle ground would be my choice. Bluish sea and reddish grounds.
