Default The Gnome Fortress: almost done!

    Hello everyone,

I have been tinkering away on this on and off for a while (my entry in last months challenge). Anyhow, I'm starting to get closer to a finished version, but I feel like there is just something missing. So figured I would make a quick WIP for some feedback if people have a moment before I wrap it up. Color to the frame and labels/title will be added later, so my main concern is the actual picture itself.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Here is where I am right now.

    Cheers,
    Tainotim

I don't have any critiques. Beautiful.

    Yes! Wow.

I don't know whats missing for you, but perhaps the water doesn't look quite watery enough? Or a lack of shadows on the water to give it depth?

I really can't wait to see it done!

II second what Falconius said. Maybe also a darker sky and some light source (an outer glow to the stars ?). This tiny comment put aside, I love the setting !

The colours are still beautiful, and you still shouldn't change them (even though you have changed them since the Challenge).

I think there was a sort of mauve element to the Challenge map that's been kind of cancelled out a bit by the very slightly greenish yellowish grey of the new shading work. But then... maybe you just didn't like the blue/mauve/white thing all that much?

The shading itself gives it a more solid and realistic feel.

Now that Falconius has mentioned it, maybe the water could do with a bit of... I don't know... something

Ooh, beautiful! I love the colors and the perspective.

I do agree that the water could use something (color? more detail?).

I also notice that the rocket from Tintin is hanging out in the background there.

Beautiful job, this a fun one to look ant and adventure around, love the cave opening and green goo coming out the pipe.

maybe some water shadows from the islands, boat or reflection of the cliffs?

I think the sky, water and cliffs seem a little monochromatic? Maybe a heavier shadow on the cliff crevices?

Have you tried a much darker sky? Doesn't feel overly nighttime. Really nice job on the building highlights and shadows. Looking forward to seeing this finished.

Oh wow. Big thanks for all the quick suggestions and ideas! Wasn't sure what I didn't like about this piece, but I now definitely see what people mean, both about the sky, water and cliffs.

Now, time to get started on fixing it!

    Thanks again y'all!

The boat is a very nice touch.
I am interested to see what that tunnel leads to... maybe find a way to incorporate that into the map?
The best maps are the ones we like the most after looking at the longest.
