Default Feb / Mar 2015 Lite Challenge: Autumn Forest Textures

One of the things I've long noticed around here is that forests all tend to be green, like fantasy worlds are in constant summer. So I decided to make some autumn color textures for forests. Here are two examples, using the Arboria map I made a while back to practice hand-drawn mountains and forests. I've added a lot more forests to it, just to have lots to show off the color textures.

The first example is using some fairly natural forest greens, overlain by the color textures to add autumn colors.

The second example is using some dark unsaturated forest greens that lots of people around here seem to like for maps, again overlain by the autumn color textures.

Comments are welcome on all of the above, forests, forest colors, and the autumn color textures.

    Cheers,
    Cornelia

The edges are a bit rough if you know what I mean.

Thanks, Azelor. I'm not sure what you mean by "edges are a bit rough", do you mean the edges of the forests?

yep, and I think both saturation level are great. I tend to prefer less saturation in general though.

I like the desaturated version a lot. The colours in the forest in the final panel are beautiful.

    Thanks Bogie!

I'm sure glad other people comment on these, because I've lived around real New England style autumn forests all my life, and to me, the saturated colors on the first map are the ones that look real to me. I know you are from New England, so it must be my eyes .....

I like them both, and if you are comparing them to the real thing then it is just a matter of how bright the sun is that day.
