Like Dogtag already said over on PF - the text adds an air of authority to the map - in my mind it is as if this would be a the map held by a travelling official, come to make some kind of a decree

This turned out really well, Tonnichiwa! I'm glad you kept the art in the corners! I love the colors of this one. This reminds me of some of the Japanese Calendars my father brought back when he was stationed there, the ones with maps painted on wood. Very nicely done!

Nice style with good colors and elements! Very well done. The boats are a bit small, maybe.
