Wip January 2019 Challenge: The Dystopian Multiverse

I couldn't decide on one dystopia (or post-apocalyptic world) so I decided to map a bunch of them! Or rather, a map showing their locations in alternate versions of our world. For example: 12 Monkeys (Baltimore & Philadelphia); The Stand (Las Vegas & Boulder, CO); Clockwork Orange (England); The Walking Dead (Georgia, USA); Resident Evil (Raccoon City, somewhere in the US midwest); Handmaid's Tale (New England, USA); District 9 (Johannesburg, SA). Los Angeles, New York City, and London need their own insets because wow a lot of dystopian stories are set in those three cities. I haven't decided how to handle something like Panem, or the political situation in The Man in the High Castle. I suppose I could always list those in multiple regions or cities.

I'm planning to use a black background and gritty, almost static-like texture for land masses. I'm currently grinding out the basic world map. Add some depth, she thought. It'll be fun, she thought...

This idea is very cool, Aeshnidae. I'm looking forward to seeing what you produce.

One little suggestion, if I may: to give your map a bit more of a global effect, you could try adding Mad Max to Australia and I'm sure there are plenty of dystopias to be found in Tokyo and Beijing?

Don't forget the "Metro 2033" scenario by Dmitry Glukhovsky taking place in Moscow or "The Tripods" in Europe, "The Rain" in Denmark/Sweden", "Tales from the Loop" in Scandinavia(?), "Scythe" somewhere in Eastern Europe or "Hell" in Germany.

Thanks, all! I have quite a list of locations/dystopias to map (such as Mad Max) but I welcome all suggestions, especially for countries other than the US and UK.

Interestingly, China does not produce a lot of dystopian literature! I went looking for some and instead learned that the Chinese don't tend to go down this route because (1) it's culturally unacceptable to destroy China in fiction, and (2) China doesn't have the western religious concept of Armageddon/end of days.

Great idea aeshnidae and good move on the depth.
    Some suggestions:
    The Windup Girl, Bangkok
    Fatherland, Berlin and Auschwitz
Roadside Picnic (the book), Canada and five other visitation zones
    S.T.A.L.K.E.R (the game), Chernobyl
    BioShock, Atlantic Ocean
a little far-fetched but in the original book "Planet of the Apes" the heroes land in Paris when they return to Earth
