Map The Witchlands - fantasy map commission

    Hi everyone,

Last year I was commisionned by author Susan Dennard to make the map of the Witchlands for her book serie "Truthwitch". The map comes in two versions, color and greyscale. The map was requested in a style similar to my map of Vardenia and Urenia and related to a vague shape of Europe. I've also attached a picture of the map in the book itself.

*Sigh* Beautiful in every ways... Not much more to say except that I like a lot the non-classical symbols for elements (similar yet different of the famous alchemical ones).

Nice work Max. I have always found it interesting that so many fantasy world maps look a lot like Europe or the US without any good reason for it. In this case it is nice to know that the author specifically asked for an approximation of that shape.

Really nice work Max. Again, love how you did the water.
And I totally agree that the printed version looks wonderful.

As always, great work, Max! And as (almost) always, i'd wish for a higher resolution...i want to zoom in much more!

I like the color version a lot more. I don't know why but the greyscale version does not really pop (for me).

If i can, i'll Rep. you.

OMG it's such a rip off of those Europe maps everyone does! I mean sure you changed things a little and sunk Spain. But come on! that is such a rip of Bootland!

    Seriously lovely work again -Max-

Look at those hills! A hobbit could draw better hills!

Gorgeous work as per usual, Max. I absolutely love the border on this one; every element is perfect. I think that's one thing I really need to work on; by the time I get to the border, I'm so burnt out from the map I get lazy and don't put the time into it. I can only learn from the master.

Maybe try to work on the border first?
