Default Map the Guild : second try

I have been thinking about this for a while now. It would be great to have a map that would combine the different styles we can find here in the Guild. Some sort of repository that would contain different styles and techniques to create maps. This would help new members to get a better idea of what they like and how to do it but would also help older members. And it will make a great map too!

For example the map could include V-inversed shaped mountains, Ascension's Atlas Style mountains, Mountains ridge like Lingon does them (for example), etc. It might seems similar to the CWBP but the goal and the final rendering should be completely different. It's not about depicting a coherent world since the practical aspect should be more important.

You actually could do it very similarly to the CWBP, in that someone could sketch out a really basic overview map, divide it into sections, and people could claim a section (or two or three adjoining, if they regularly use different styles).

It'd be kind of cool to see a huuuuuuuuge long mountain range that everyone here drew a piece of...

Oh I would love to see that - and I think it really would help newbies like myself a lot.
And it would look really interesting
And that's with great detail like "A COMPASS tells you which direction is north!"

I did a quick sample of what it could look like. I assume some styles are better along some than others. Or should I try to have some sort of transition ?

    What do you think ?

Funny to see some Blaue mountains along with members styles.

I think this is a good idea, Azelor, but I have my reservations about the format. The reason is quite simple: how do you combine pictographic maps (like the version you posted) with a satellite style? If the different styles of map are not combined, it doesn't really seem to be representing the approaches of the various members of the CG.

That said, I would really like to see an image with different styles/ways to draw hachure mountains (the furry caterpillar ones). I'm struggling with them on a side project at the moment.

Easy, the different continents and islands would represent a different style.

Max: you are right, I thought it was Bleu like in French... and yes it's not from a Guild member so I might get rid of it.

Thinking about the copyright issues had me remembered this idea.

I still think it's a good idea and I'm inviting interested artists to submit either their brushes or samples of their maps (PNG is probably the ideal file)
I could modify the arrangement of the different elements and modify the colors in order to harmonize the map.
Every author participating to the map will have his own name (or username) written next to their work.

The two most important things I want to include are the mountains (hills, cliffs, etc) and the forests.
if I should add something else, feel free to make suggestions.

I planed 2 different continents so far, each with a different perspective.

1 continent for the top down perspective
1 continent for the inclined projection / axonometric ?

The brushes that I plan to include:

And finally, I hope I have all the Guild's brushes. I tried to get as many as possible but I'm sure I missed some of them. If not, post a message and I will add the missing brushes.
I was also wondering if I could include brushes from elsewhere like Deviant art or if it's better to stay with the Guild's brushes.

Maybe it's just me but I find all of those lead to a 404. Clicking on the first one, for example:
takes me to Avalôtrahzar http://www.cartographersguild.com/ma...hy-symbol.html but returns "404 not found"

I note tat the foums are php-driven, which makes it unlikely that the .html extensions are still valid. Did the underlying software change between Azelor's post and now? Or am I doing something wrong?

    Cheers

Ah, I found Avalôtrahzar's original post, by going through the "Mapping Elements" forum, at http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=26561 so I'm guessing there was a software change, which means I can find the others. Excellent!
