Post First shot at completed map

Here is my first attempt at a complete map. After looking at many of the tutorials on the site I gave it a shot. I used the City Map color palette from RobA's tutorial for most of the colors. I used Gimp for everything except the compass which was done with Inkscape. Thanks to everyone who posts there techniques, the help was much needed. Any feedback/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Not bad. I'm not sure what the brown packaging paper around the edges is for but the rest looks pretty solid. Keep up the good work.

Good map. Like Ascension, the brown around the edge confuses me. Is the brown ABOVE the map, or the map ON TOP of something brown???? A drop shadow would eliminate the disconnect.

    It's RonCo's new 'World In A Box' available now for $19.95 + S&H

I like the map too, just wish it were bigger/higher rez so we could better see the details

The background was an attempt at age or decay but I must agree it did not turn out very well!
To ask a question, what resolution do you prefer to work with?
    Thanks for the comments!

I can't offer any comments on the map that haven't already been made, other than it's loads better than my first attempt...

The only advice I can give you is to never start out by posting a map in the Finished Maps section. It's always a good idea to post it first in the WIP forums, just to make sure it's as finished as you really thought it was. At least that's my experience.

As for resolution, personally, I always start out with at least a 1000x1000 pixel canvas, and I think that's still considered a bit on the small side around here.
