Hi, and Welcome to the guild!

I was home schooled growing up as a military brat... moving school to school as my family traveled was not working with my older brother so by time I came around my family was all about home schooling... anyway.

What kind of maps do you like... what kind do you make... how do you make maps (pen & paper... photoshop... paint... or the like)

There are allot of really talented people here that do all they can to help us new folk.

I look forward to seeing your maps both small and great.

Thanks man, I have to say I'm a little jealous of your Life, Military Brat is one of my favorite Character Archtypes

I'm a Modernist Cartographer, I like to make maps that give the most information with the least clutter, although I do enjoy viewing Traditional Maps quite a bit (I love the olde real world maps with land bridges between Europe and America's.

I am exclusively a Pen & Ink Mapmaker, excluding my few real world ones where I use maps from the WikiMap Project. I don't have the Money for any of the Computer program's.

But I intend to begin by posting My History of Cartography on the World Maps Board, Where I shall show how my maps have evolved over time and how I've gotten better.

Friend there are many Free & Cheap programs to edit and make photos/art with... the best "Free" one that I know of... and use when I am away from my home computer (with Photoshop) is GIMP

I use GIMP portable on a thumb drive... but that is just preference ans it is the same program either way.

Being a Photoshop user it never gets old just how powerful GIMP is given the price difference.

there is a good deal of tutorials on this site that deal with GIMP and a good software discussion section.

Welcome to the guild Arkkeeper. I look forward to seeing your maps. Rpgmapmaker has it exaclty right. there are some fantastic mapmaking apps that are totally free. GIMP is great but if you're more into vector graphics Inkscape is great and also completely free. I use a combo of those two.

This is not an attempt to convince you not to go handdrawn. On the contrary the handdrawn community here is growing and there are some fantastic artists who hand draw on this site. I think you'll find many people to share techniques and advice with.
