    Default Gjalskerland (archaic viking-inspired map)

    Hey everyone! =)

The Gjalskerland is a viking-inspired - but way more archaic - region of Aventuria in the 'The Dark Eye' universe. Under the waves their mad winding whale-god Zwanfir devours the dead. The in-game map itself is very roughly done on the basis of sketches, with notes added. I quite like this one, and even though I had to work digitally, I tried to somehow capture charcoal at least a bit. This is way off my typical style, but I like how it turned out.

I hope you all stay safe. Have a great 2021 everyone!
    Best wishes, -Steffen

Really neat and different design! I certainly would not like to be the people living in Nordaport though... They look like they are about to be eaten!

Damn, that is indeed not what we're used to seeing from you. But I too like how it came out! I love the sketchy style of the map itself and the decorations fit the theme. The messier brushwork in grays is maybe a tad too soft looking for my taste (could have used a bit rougher texture to the edges, if that makes any sense?), but that really is bordering on nitpicking territory. Excellent choice on the font too, by the way - it's not every day you see a font match the overall style this perfectly.

Wow, yeah very different from your usual style. I really like it though
You achieved the charcoal, hand-drawn effect really well, even with the text, and I love the ornamentation of the whale and its twists.

@Arimel: Thank you! Yes, but living that far north is generally a bad idea

@Kellerica: I know, right? =) I know what you mean and I think it comes down to taste. I'm curious to see it printed, it tends to get a bit darker. Thank you so much!

@Ifrix: Thank you, glad you like it so much. And an additional thanks for the rep and nice comment! =)

    That's pretty cool, Steffen.

Die Leute hinter DSA scheinen ja immer kreativer zu werden bzw. immer kreativere Ideen in ihrem "Sandkasten" zu zulassen. Find ich super! Wirklich mal was anderes.

@Eliathen: Thank you! Nun, in der Hinsicht bin ich ja auch einer der entscheidet was zugelassen ist und was nicht...

@J.Edward: Thank you very much - and an additional thank you for the Rep! =)
