Default [Withdrawn] September - October Challenge: The Nyarrik Regions

Well, mearrin convinced me to enter, so here goes nothin'.

I'm going to bite off a potentially indegestion-causing piece and map not only most of New York State, but also an inset map of the Great Ruins - New York City. The idea is that global warming, super-plagues, total economic collapse, and maybe a stray nuke or two have done away with modern civilization. This map'll be set maybe two or three centuries from now.

No WIP yet; just wanted to get this up before I changed my mind. Now I'm committed.

edit: added WIP; figured I'd better put something up.

Yeah, I found an EXTREMELY handy site: http://flood.firetree.net/ that lets you raise sea levels up to 14 meters anywhere on the planet, using Google Maps application. Seriously awesome idea. And now I won't have to puzzle out a base map showing accurate flooding.

A teensy bit of progress; adding in some rough color, fiddling with major rivers.

Great idea! also the flood thing is pretty cool, I clicked it and see the city where I live in flooded (coincidence.... or does it initialzie based on client-IP scans or something?)

Nice going, one of my ideas also involves water but it's the 3rd on my list atm and may not even get done depending on how quickly everything else works out.

A bit more work; mountains are coming along now. Note: they're not strictly following actual contours, only approximating. I also added a grunge layer which needs some more work, but gives you an idea of what the final color scheme'll look like.

I'm liking the colors. Are the boxes at left insets? Guessing the bottom one is for Manhattan/Long Island?

Edit: Hmmm. When're you going to put a crown on that diamond?
