Default Nautical lines on a map?

I am using a Photoshop CS5, I am building a continent map, I would love for some one to help me out on how I go about making nautical lines for the map and Compass rose ?

I'm guessing you mean either Rhumb Lines or a Graticule.

I don't know much about Photoshop's path tool (Or "pen tool" as Adobe calls it) but you are probably better off using a vector editor to put something like this together then load it into photoshop. Inkscape is free and very good.

You might find these useful, you can load them into Inkscape, set them up the way you want them, and export as a PNG to load into Photoshop.

Photoshop is not the best tool to draw thses lines. If you are familiar with Adobe, i would recommend Illustrator, but Inkscape is a good program too.
If you need ideas about how projections lines work, i found this site very interesting : progonos.com.
