This is a reconstruction drawing of a real town in Romania around 1400AD. The town's official Romanian name is Caransebeș, the German name is Karansebesch, and the town also has a hungarian name, Karánsebes (all quite similar).
The town was founded shortly after 1200AD, and consisted of a 'castle' (which actually was a fortified quarter of the town) and several other quarters. The town is located at the mouth of the rivers Sebeș and Timiș, at an important trading route from central Hungaria to Wallachia and the Byzantine (later Ottoman) Empire. Because of its strategic location, it was often harrassed in Turkish raids. In the late 19th century, the town was given a regular street pattern, which makes it difficult to reconstruct the original one.

I would have started a WIP thread if i hadn't finished the drawing long before i found this site, but now i think it still deserves being shared here...

I edited the original version to show the phases of the development of the town:

This looks really interesting! I enjoy this type of style when it comes to maps.

Are you planning to fill in those outlines of roads coming out of the city? It'd look beautiful with some trees or cliffs.
The best maps are the ones we like the most after looking at the longest.
