Flags for a fantasy world

Here are some flags I created using what advice I got from here. I hope you enjoy this one.

Heavily based from colonial Spain, the Great Empire of Gavalia was a fledgling state in the early 1200s after the collapse of the Holy Carthos Empire. Gavalia, like many states and countries, was left in economic ruin and its kings and lords fought hard as wars erupted from the countries attempting to reclaim glory from their loss. Gavalia decided to protect it self, and through these means survived well into the winter when the wars met at Gavalia's borders in 1289. A three year war lead not only to the defeat of many countries, but revitalized the economy of a suffering Gavalia and the military state was formed.

the early 1300s and 1400s was known as Gavalia's greatest expansion in its history and scholars often argue if it is the greatest in all history. With bold commanders and guerilla tactics, as well as blackmail and backway politics, Gavalia slowly retook the countries of the Holy Carthos Empire before 1489 when the expansion was suggested to go North to the Full Brine. It was met with a new threat in 1500s.

In the early 1500s, a new opponent called the Justicarian Theocracy was seen sailing through their waters. Gavalia learned beyond the massive Full Brine, the Justicarians had began a similar expansion and were also fighting a crusade overseas, known to the Justicars as "Blessed Marches". In 1567, Justicar attempted to declare war on Gavalia for their following of a heathen god. The war only lasted six years before Justicar fashioned a declaration of peace to both Gavalia and a distant place called "The Orient".

Now, due to vengeful sailors, the sea of the Full Brine has become a home of Brigands, Pirates, and Smugglers. Which Gavalia and Justicar threaten to kill and end their red reign of terror.

Brethrenhood
of the
Black Flags

The Brethrenhood of the Black Flags has no exact origin date like most of the empires. It is seen to have begun truly around the start of the Blessed Marches when Oriental Soldiers and Sailors began to become more frequent and enjoyed the idea of gaining wealth for little effort. Soon piracy grew as the Crusades and wars ended, leaving sailors and merchants free of trade, military had also become an option but many enjoyed the act of piracy for it's vast wealth and riches.

The Brethrenhood don't just cover pirates, however. The Brethrenhood also covers privateers whom joined, smugglers, and bandits. The brethrens often are tricky or malicious, but never both. The flag has representation in it. The three skulls so close to one another stands for the unity of it's members, and it's five gold rings to honor the last five Pirate Kings, before the age of Pirate Kings. Those who join must follow strict rules, made by the first pirate king; Nayhan the Camel whom wanted all men to be free.

RULES:
- The Brethrenhood Flag always flies higher than the crew's flag.
- The crew must be respected as equals, no man is different.
- The assurance of payment upon injury must be secured for all men and women.
- All members must follow one of the 11 Current Pirate Kings, and thus join their commitment.
- All members, despite religion, will recieve a proper funeral (which is based heavily off the viking style).

More have been added but these are the basic rules. As well as the crews personal rules, which often if not hold these. As of current year (c. 1634) the sea is divided by 9 Pirate Kings, all of which are against the oppression of the imperial rulers and their law.

The Orient

The Orient (also known as The Land of the Desert Rose or it's proper name, Al'mir Ashkalir) is heavily based off early Arabic culture.

The Monarchy
of

The Monarchy of Gael is a largely occupied territorial island off the shore of the Justicarian Theocracy. While the Monarchy of Gael has been free for many years, it became occupied by the Justicarians roughly 80 Years ago, during what could largely be considered the first of the "Blessed Marches" before they arrived to the Orient. Not much of Gael's history is mentioned before the Justicarian Occupation. But before, Gael was a highly respected nation of agarian and hardworking stonemasons.

Earliest records show life being there as long as 10,000 Years ago, but at the time of recorded history, Gael had produced pottery, writing, as well as bronze weapons and armor. At one time, a landbridge to Justicar may have existed though records reveal that the only trace of it is "The Yindy Head" (Yin-Day Heed), a series of three islands which are all but covered in mountains. From 120 to 450, Gael was separated into three petty kingdoms called Munst, Handel, and Somme until what is known as "The Three Kingdoms War" ended Somme and divided it among the allied Handel and Munst. in 670, the war began again known as "The Gaelian Claims War" in which Munst demanded all land in Handel due to a past relation.

In 800, Munst renamed the entire monarchy to the Monarchy of Gael to honor the original kingdom that existed before the wars. It soon was met with Justicarian merchants who introduced sailing to them, as Gaelians only used the river and coastlines, with this technology Trading overseas became easier. However, the truce was uneasy as Gael refused the idea of abandoning their belief of a deity in replace for the Justicarian's Consolence Religion.

In the early 1500s, Gael's trading and ruses gave way to a declaration of conversion by the Justicarians which they refused. The war of excommunication began and lasted only 6 months before ships sufficated the already dying Gael into surrender. Within a month, the Justicarians had built shrines and churches in Gael and all citizens were either forced to convert or be banished to the island to the south known as St. Hildegard (Which is now a prison work-camp). In the modern day, Gael is now wholesomely considered to be part of the Justicarian Theocracy, however many Gaelians consider themselves slaves and a territory of the Justicarians. THeir current status is very debated, and the tension is thick with many riots and rebellions against Justicarian structures.
