Default September 2014 Challenge : Escutcheon

The escutcheon, also called the shield, is the central part of the achievement. Heraldry is the name of that specific art.

Many people place escutcheons as part of their map. I decided to create a file to help me create mine.
The possibilities are very large since all elements can be modified and altered. I'm mostly using the medieval European and Byzantine heraldry but I read that other cultures also had a similar art. Including Japan and possibly the Muslim world. I'm pretty sure that China didn't had that because it was not a feudal system, there was only one noble family and their banners where often made of 1/2 character with 1 color.
I will try to add more elements in the future, from other cultures but also new concepts maybe. I'm also working on the Furs based on images I found : A Complete Guide to Heraldry - Wikisource, the free online library

I don't know which ones I will submit for the contest. They are usually pretty simple because they are made to be customizable and they don't include elements like lions. And yes I intend to release the .AI file when it finished.
My favorites are in the center left but I might change them later.
Anyway, here is what I got so far.

This is where I took the shield (the default shield is the same as my avatar) : 120+ Vector Shields, Coat of Arm

Yes I know. I'm almost done but I'm not sure what I will summit for the contest. I find that most are too simple for a contest so I might make a more complex version for the 6 shields.

I appreciate that picture that you put up pryme, it is nice to show the rules to someone who might not know them already when entering this competition. I was wondering if it was necessary to Blazon the coat of arms once published to the thread?

I have a heraldic design that I made a while back via photoshop that is not really a coat of arms but a personal standard.

I also have a family coat of arms that I've blazoned.

and the AI file. I'm ok with commercial projects using these shields as long as they give me the credit. I might update the file later.
