    Default User Friendly Cartographer Software

Hello everyone - I'm happy to have found this website!

I'm a PhD student researching some areas of the world that have few or no maps - it's in the Himalayas. So I'm looking for a very user friendly software for someone of absolutely no cartographer experience to organise my own maps based on fieldwork.

I'm usually pretty good at figuring out how things work and like to draw. Can anyone recommend anything?

    Thanks very much!

Welcome! Check out the http://www.cartographersguild.com/tu...y-mapping.html ... it's a great way to introduce yourself to the volumes of information available throughout the site. As far as software, there are so many tools, each of which has its strong proponents. I personally use GIMP and Photoshop, and good ol' pen/paper/paint. There's a fairly extensive software discussion over here though: http://www.cartographersguild.com/so...formation.html where you can get many different viewpoints.
