    Default Hello there

    Hello,
My name is Fred. I'm a 47 y.o. married man and father of 2 from southern U.S. I'm a new indie boardgame designer who is in the middle of self-publishing a game (or two) as a hobby. Even though this is a hobby and I don't have unlimited funds, I'm not a hack. I am in need of professional quality Cartographers. I'm here to develop relationships that may be mutually beneficial, as this appears to be the best place to find high quality Cartography.

    Thanks for your time,

    -F

    Welcome! What kinds of games?

I have 2 on the back burner that I don't want to discuss yet. But the main one I am working on right now is "Epic Wars". Ya, I know, a little cheese puff but what the hey... at least it's not another Zombie game.
Anyway, it's a kingdom builder, tile exploration, and resource management game with elements of tabletop skirmish included... all set in a fantasy genre. Madcowchef from Cartographers Guild has done some work on the skirmish sites already. As you can see by the 2016 publish date on BGG (below) I have a ways to go and elements keep changing. I will keep everyone posted and eventually will need gametesters.

    Here's the boardgamegeek listing...

Welcome to the guild! I too am interested in finding out more of what type of games. While I am not the cartographer you are looking for, I enjoy introducing new games to my kids

Godzirra, what type of maps are you looking for? I am sure that they will need to be tile-able, but are you looking for a specific art style?

I will not be the one to help with this request, but perhaps knowing what specifically you are wanting can help bring those who can out

Hey thanks! I was going to make a thread in the next day or two with some basic parameters and request samples from those interested in doing commission work. But as a preliminary idea, I guess something similar to either of these two are pretty much up my alley.

But there are so many good maps on this site I wouldn't want to limit to just those two people. There may be better maps, I'm far from viewing every map on this site. But the general idea, regardless of who does the map, will be to have a good size map as the actual gameboard... probably about 30"x40". The map will actually have to have 2 versions. One that would be semi-basic with very little text, no cities, etc... this would act as an "unexplored" game board. As the players explore areas they will lay down hex tiles of the same map but more detailed. Each tile may be a hex of only about 5"x5". On those tiles would be more details, "Screaming Gorge" "Blahblahblah Woods" etc... the 5"x5" tiles would also have resource nodes on them that would signify the area where players could place buildings for resource gathering. These "icons" or graphic elements might have a few different size versions showing different "levels" of resources. A player could level up a resource building in order to produce more of that resource.

So I'm guessing the best way to handle this would be to have multiple layers which could turn off resource node graphics, text, roads (paths), etc... and you would still need just 1 large map. Of course I am not the Cartographer, so I'm open to any suggestions that would make it easier for both parties involved.

Now on the basic gameboard map, even though the unexplored landmass may be more "plain" than the above linked maps, the surrounding water, borders, compass, and other graphic elements should still be highly detailed with "old world" style.

I hope this is enough info to wet someones palette, and I will spend some time coming up with examples of what I'm talking about.

Those are amazing! Hopefully you find someone who can help with the maps, as I'm still newbie.
