New person who still trying to draw maps

I suck at drawing or any type of art other then painting (im just good with colors and shades not actually drawing) and I cannot make maps to save my life, I have been browsing this site looking at maps for inspiration for a while and I cannot make maps to save my life so i decided to join and see if anyone can help me out and give me some tips on map making, Im a big person for RPGs so this is my main reason for joining.

Hi PrincessLuna, welcome to the Guild. I'm about the same as you, I flunked Crayons 101 back in 3rd grade and never looked at art again until I discovered digital.

I think you'll find some good tutorials around here to help you get started

Go to the thread called "Tutorials/How-To" and read the section called "Quickstart Guide to Fantasy Mapping". From there, depending on the tools you choose and your mapping interests, you can find more.

i do not draw ( old spine injury from 1989) i type faster with my left hand now


so i use software to make a "heightmap" also known as a DEM ( Digital Elevation Model )
then work from there

but
i make whole planets and not just an area of one
