Default Fill in a map using only fonts

There are a whole lotta fonts out there with great images. You can create your own background and outline for the map, but everything else must be font based.

An alternative could be to use a generic black blob for the map.

Only people who are nuts about fonts, and collect them obsessively (like me!) would think this is a good idea.

That is a very interesting idea. I would like to participate to that one.

Are symbol fonts accepted, like these ? : http://www.creativebloq.com/typograp...-fonts-2131972

Wow! Thats really nice. yes that was the idea. And there are probably 1,000s of "dingbat" fonts that would have various graphics you could use. A very quick scan of the "dafonts" site found a nice bunch of trees, for instance.

The first thing I thought of was something like this:

    carefornature-billboard.jpg

And I thought, "That sounds really time-consuming."

edit: I should probably link to the original artist's site, or she'll hurt me. http://jessicaraydesign.com/wp/proje...sing-campaign/

Bonus points if somebody makes their own font just for the contest map ...

If someone went to all that trouble, they deserve extra points!

On a practical note, I suppose one stipulation would be to have contestants list the fonts they used.

I never participated in one of those contests... when will this start? Can anyone enter? I thing the topic would be inspiring and I'm hyped to try it =)
Also: What is the difference between Mapping Challenge and Light Mapping Challenge? I'd be grateful for a clarification... oO

I think if you read the rules for the Lite Challenge, you can see the difference. Has to do with what other awards/achievements you have.

This suggestions section is for ideas to be used in future challenges, and are normally selected by the CL's who set them up.

Steffen, lite challenges are usually set up to allow every member , even the less experimented ones, to enter, providing a longer timeframe ( 2 months) and easier themes. Regular challenges only last 1 month and often feature harder themes. This is the place where you can compete with more experimented mapmakers. Of course, both are open to everyone (though there's some constraints : a guilder who was already awarded with a Cartographer's Choice, already won the Regular Challenge or already won 3 Lite Challenges can't enter Lite Challenge anymore).
