    Wip Map for my Campaign [Citynames in German]

    Hey!

    So i didnt want to upload the very first trys of my map because i was ashamed how it looked compared to most of the entrys here. Yet still my map looks like nothing more then a dirty booger compared to the other entrys but i want to share it with you. Why? Because i can and i want critics.

    Left is the Citynames-Version, right is the Politic-Version:

    That was my very first attemp to make a map that looks better then a improved scratch with simple black & white colors.

    A few suggestions i already got:
    - A Mountain Spring
    - Desert more into the middle (Yet its a magical desert)
    - Big Citys more to the ozean-borders

    Stay crunchy.

    Hi FiesesAlien, welcome to the Guild!

    Kudos for posting a map with your first post! No one was born knowing how to make pretty maps. We all went through the learning curve In fact, your maps are a nice start -- you have climate zones, tolerable mountains (although a little dense), some texture and color that makes sense. Have some rep.

    It would be helpful if you could learn to post your maps via this forum's mechanics, so we don't have to click through a bunch of popup ads to see them

    Try smoothing the transitions between colored terrain areas, add some rivers (read the tutorial first -- top of the Tutorials section), and spread the mountains out a bit.

    What software are you using?

    Be more fractal - coastlines, transitions between colored areas, mountains.
    The northern mountains really look strange, kind of piled up peaks all on the same place.

    @chick
    Thx for the welcome I will look into the forum mechanics, iam bit odd with things figuring out. Even when i directly see the "here, do this, it would be better!"-button, i wont see it untill someone mention it I will try that with the color transition as soon i have again time for the map. I will look into the river-tutorial and the mountains hmmm.... I had only made 1 animated brush via tutorial. Do you mean that the mountains are too big or are just to less mountains on the map?

    @Deadshade
    Hey! Thx for critics. Uhm, i dont know what you mean with be more factal coastlines? The transition between the colors i will try. I used the same mountain-brush for all the mountains, maybe i have should used a bigger brush because now you mentioned it i think that theyre too dense together with all those peaks too.

    The Software iam using is Gimp 2.
