    Default Greetings

    Dear fellow Cartographers!

Being a map-enthusiast and long-time RPG Gamemaster/Player from Germany, i am following the guild for some time now, looking for inspiration, tips & tricks or just the wonderful pieces of art.
I am always stunned by the tons of friendly and helpful comments on works-in-progress posted here, and the way the veterans and newbies in the field are sharing their knowledge.
Throwing myself into the world (and pitfalls) of mapmaking by software again (my last serious attempt was in 2006 ), i am looking forward to post from time to time some pieces of wip and get in conversation about them.

PS: I attached an old map of a Khanate-style empire, for those interessted (i only saved a low-res version back then :/). World_by_AbuLafia.jpg

    Thanks alot chick!
As i said, this map is 8 years old and only .jpg so i can't reconstruct the processes behind it or continue easily. Also i had no idea of heightmaps, "bumping" things up, etc. (i was totally fascinated by the layer/mask function in gimp, that was enough to play with ), because tutorials or tips on mapmaking were quite scarce back then. Im glad to have so many useful tutorials here to work through, and (hopefully) improve my skills...
