Default First map - Continent of Ulthui

Greetings. I've been into world building for a long time, but this is the first proper map I've created so I'm looking for some critique. Something to note is that I struggled with deciding what style I wanted to go for and I ended up trying to create something realistic, though not entirely. The mountains are a little small, but this is an unfinished map and I just thought I'd put it up here as I work on the new one.

    Thanks. Click to enlarge.

All depends how far realistic you want to go.
For instance if your mountain ranges have the same age and have been created by folding of continental plates (like they do on Earth) then it is impossible to have parts of the range branching off at right angles. Large Y's are also not very usual .
Smaller Y branches created by erosion are OK.

Great first map! Leagues above where my first map was at.

Pros: Great color choices, very natural feeling and nothing sticks out like an eyesore
Great font, easy to read text
I like the slight curve the map takes, very globe feeling.

Cons: I agree with DeadShade, the mountains are going a little crazy. Most mountains occur when tectonic plates collide, creating these mountain "ridges". These are usually lined up more and branch out less. The crazy mountain ranges normally had magma and volcanoes involved in their creations (big dome mountains). Just pull them back a bit and line them up a bit more and your golden.

I am unsure if this is finished or not but think of adding rivers and forests as well. Keeping in mind rivers never fork downhill and small rivers join together to create larger ones, and 99.9% of rivers end in the ocean.

Other then that, great first map, and I am very excited to see how you develop here!

    Cheers!

Very nice start! I will look forward to how you develop this! Fix the mountains, add some rivers, the like, and you'll have a winner! I like your lighting very much

    And welcome to the Guild!!
