Post Writer and map maven . . . and a Frank Lloyd Wright compass rose

I am a writer and backpacker with a thing for maps. I am a big fan of Raven Maps, in particular, but I'll spend an hour examining a frontispiece map in a fantasy novel as well, flipping back to it throughout the book.

My drawing skills are rudimentary, but I am currently working on a novel with a character who, starting from zero, learns to map his own world as a way of defining himself. I need to learn more about the process to write about it and I'd also love to get better at it myself.

In the course of other research I came across this compass rose, which I thought might interest some of you. I can't prove that he drew it himself, but it is in the original line drawings for an existing Frank Lloyd Wright house, and it is on the only sheet where his signature block is done freehand in pencil rather than printed.

Hey, that rose compass is really cool! I am a huge fan of Frank Lloyd Wright and his architecture. I actually just visited Florida Southern college which he designed, and that was awesome. The concept of your novel sound really interesting, and I'm sure you will find a lot of useful information here.
