    Default Copying Layers in Gimp

Okay, this is not about copying a layer within the same drawing...

But rather an inquiry into whether or not there is a way to copy one (or more) layers out of one drawing, INTO another.

For example, I spend some time building like a center piece of my map which I like a lot, but all the other parts around that piece kinda brings it all down. Now I spend more time trying out alternate ways to create the other stuff to my satisfaction, and find that I have to recreate all the layers from the other drawing, or, go back to the original, and with only the layers belonging to the piece I want open, create a png and import THAT as a layer in order to have it in my new drawing. Fine and dandy...

But what if I want to be able to tweak those layers a bit in order to make them fit a bit better in the new background?

Is this possible at all, or am I dreaming in Technicolor?

Copy the file and delete the parts that you don't want?

Yeah....if I had actually thought of doing the experimentation in the same file.....But no, I started over, concentrating on the background and got that where I wanted it...and ONLY then realized that I had TWO drawings with layers that I liked and want to sort of Combine them. But how do I do that without losing the layers out of one or the other? Can I import one using Open as Layers and have all of the second one's layers active??

Just tried that and guess what....IT WORKS

Thanks waldronate, I wouldn't have thought of that at all...Too obvious I guess...

I do that sort of stuff quite often myself. Pretty much anything is possible but it might not always be feasible.

in the layers dialog uncheck the "eye" and make everything you DO NOT want copied invisible
    then select "copy visible"

and past it into the new image

or just highlight the one layer you want
    layer to selection
    and copy/paste
