Hello everyone,

My name is Rachel and I am a graduate student at the University of Colorado at Denver in their new applied geography and geospatial science program that starts this fall. I am interested in learning how to develop and create maps for emergency management purposes and crime analysis work. I currently just took a cartography class at a community college and am looking to expand my skills and knowledge of cartography.

Hey Rachel. Welcome to the Guild.
The primary focus of most of the mapping done here is fantasy based though we all employ many techniques that are useable for a variety of real world maps.
Another map site that may also be helpful for you, as it deals almost entirely with real world mapping, is http://www.cartotalk.com/
I only add that in addition to the Guild. We may be of some assistance with what you want to do.
Cartotalk deals with a lot of GIS type stuff. Hope that's helpful.
