    Map The Old Lands

I am completely new to the forum and to cartography as a whole but I gave it a try a while ago and really got into it. I hope I'm getting better.

Nice start! Have some rep for your first map post

I like the colors, and you have done a good job with the coastlines. Your lakes need outlets to the sea, but otherwise the layout and placement of things looks excellent. I hope you plan to build on this, I'll look forward to seeing where you go with it

Welcome to the Guild! I agree with the others. You are off to a nice start. I like the colors of this map. As for constructive criticism I would say there are at least a couple of ways this piece could be improved upon. First, much of the land mass is empty. Adding more terrain features such as hills, plains, deserts etc would help give it more character. Second, the hand drawn style and the artistic/photorealistic styles are really quite different from each other and, like oil and water, don't generally mix well (there are exceptions, some more experienced artists I've seen have made it work, but this is unusual in my experience). I'd pick one style or the other and go with it.

    Cheers,

Thank you all for the comments and advice. Can somebody recommend a nice PS tutorial on adding height to the map as to make atlas-like mountains, valeys, etc.?
