    Wip Planetary Survey... WiP

    Okay, here is the dealio...

I was really happy with how this turned out for the September Mapping Challenge and I was really happy with how many votes I got. All in all I think this is a good start for a mapping project, but I think that I need to "finish" it.

Here are some edits that I need to do just because they need done...

Push the phosphorescence of the blue.
Come up with better labels than "city" and "settlement."

Here are some of the questions I need to answer...

Should the measurements be in Imperial units, metric, or "other?"
Should the language and character system be recognizeable at all?
Would it be better to show the edge of the screen/instrument being used to look at this map (for example, frame the map with a console of some kind)?
Would it be worth adding another phosphor color to the screen?

I welcome any and all input that anyone here might have.

Hopefully you can watch the progress here...

    Cheers

    Thanks for the tap.

The reason I am going back into it is that it is pretty close to a portfolio piece as it is (in my opinion) and I want to get it to be a portfolio piece.

In response to some of your questions...

    - You could try 'Population Center' or 'Life-form Nexus'

    - I think some kind of 'other' measurement unit would be better

    - Do a version with and without the 'border' and take a poll.

I would think that a console would be the way to go if you're looking at this as a folio-filler, especially if you're looking to do game work, but put one up and then decide on it later.

SG: thanks for the verbage on Pop Center. That is great. I figure I am going to finalize the interior of the piece in Illustrator and then create a console in Photoshop. A vote (even informal one) will be one of the steps.

Heya Pig, I'm not really a Sci-Fi sorta guy, so it takes something really cool to grab my attention - and you've got something really cool!

I really like what you've done with the piece.

Leave the layout as is. It looks pretty realistic and plausible as it is, and any attempt to shoehorn it into a concole will only lessen that look.

    In answer to your questions,

    Units: other
    Langauge: Not recognisable
Edges/Setting: No I think it would steal focus
Another colour: it may work well having orange blips to represent an invasion fleet location or something similar, try mocking something up on a layer quickly, I would have thought you should be able to get an idea quite easily before having to put too much effort in
