Default Looking for Real World Mapping Aids

    Helo people.

I am trying to map an alternate world map but I am having a real hard time finding what I need to work on. I will use GIMP/CC3 to do it. What I need is a DETAILED blank world map (Earth) that have the contoours of the countrys and, prefencially of the states. The ones I find are low resolution or are outdated, or do not have contours or already have tons of info on it.

My final goal is to do something like this. This was the best model that I found, but it have a low resolution and the end result became very pixelated...

I think you mean "boundaries" rather than "contours" In the context of maps "contours" is usually used to mean lines used to indicate where some continuous value like elevation passes a certain value.

Natural Earth should probably work for you, although you'll need some real geography software to work with it (at least initially) Something like QuantumGIS..

Thank you Hai-Etlik. I will see if I can work aroud what you indicated. If I can convert it to a .png file or similar they will work great!
